In this episode of Marketing + Margaritas, Jade shares her insights into the regional marketing trends of 2025 for small businesses. It’s handy to look at global trends, but the way they work in regional areas for smaller businesses is a little bit different. Obviously, Jade can’t predict the future (she lost her crystal ball), but this is what she will be focusing on next year. And after 20 years in the industry, hopefully she knows what she’s talking about 😉

Tip #1: Going all-in on digital

The importance of a strong digital presence isn’t new, but it’s more crucial than ever. For many businesses, it’s a case of go digital or go home – it’s not something you can ignore. As most of you would know, word of mouth is the best type of marketing + your digital presence can create and enhance this for you.

On the most basic level – take a hard look at your current online presence. Google your business, check your socials + ask yourself – if you were a potential customer, would you choose to work with you?

If you’re travelling pretty well with your online presence, but you still want to be progressing in the digital space – get proactive. From streamlining customer experiences with online booking systems + automated payments, to using AI tools like chatbots or content generators, the digital space offers endless opportunities to simplify your processes.

Tip #2: Prioritising local engagement

While digital is essential, it doesn’t mean ditching real-life connections. In fact, there’s a growing movement towards local engagement, particularly in regional areas like ours. Face-to-face conversations + direct outreach can strengthen relationships in a way digital interactions can’t. Whether it’s meeting clients at events or simply touching base with your local community, these personal connections are invaluable.

Tip #3: Sustainable and ethical marketing

Younger generations are increasingly demanding ethical, sustainable practices from the brands they support. Businesses that operate transparently + showcase their commitment to sustainability stand to gain loyal customers. If sustainability is part of your ethos, make it a loud + proud feature of your marketing it’s time to align your messaging with consumer values.

The world is always changing + evolving. How you approach your marketing also needs to change + evolve consumer attitudes will keep progressing, get involved or get left behind.

Tip #4: Community-centric marketing strategies

Think beyond individual relationships – how can you give back to the broader community? Whether it’s through sponsorships, attending or hosting events, or supporting local causes, your community engagement efforts build goodwill + brand loyalty. Remember, your “community” isn’t just about geography – it’s about the people whose lives you’re trying to make better with your business + what binds them together. Investing in your community not only feels good – it then feeds back into your business + provides you with actual commercial return as well.

Tip #5: Embracing data-driven decision making

If you’re not using data to guide your marketing efforts, you’re missing out on enormous opportunities. Here’s cheers to those of you who have already embraced this + to those who haven’t – make 2025 the year you take a look at your data. The area of digital analytics is never going to slow down + there are so many opportunities to make smart + informed decisions for your marketing.

Unless you’re looking at the data, you don’t know where to focus your efforts. Tools like Google Analytics can help you understand what’s working and what’s not – whether that’s identifying underperforming website pages or pinpointing where your traffic is coming from. Start small by tracking one key data point tied to your goals + as you get comfortable, grow your analytics capabilities from here. You’ll have a much better chance that it will work out for you.

Wrap up tip

Have a crack at it! Marketing isn’t a one-size-fits-all game. Try different strategies, track your results + refine your approach based on what works for your business. Whether you’re diving into digital, getting involved in your community, or leveraging data, the key is to start somewhere + keep testing until you find your winning formula.
