Connecting with other people is part of our biology – connecting with businesses, not as much. That’s why building your own personal brand can help to build your business’s brand.
Anyone can have a personal brand, you don’t need to be the owner of the business to have your face and logo recognised.
Working on your brand.
Just like a business, you need to work out what you want to be known for. How are people going to recognise and describe you?
Personal branding activities to consider:
Headshots > have a variety of brand-aligned headshots that can be used for various things, eg LinkedIn profile, on socials, email sigs (if that’s your thing) and so on.
Bio > have short and long versions of your bio to use that are NOT a retelling of your resume, they’re about what value you can offer as a professional.
LinkedIn > upgrade your profile and start posting, regularly.
Face-to-face networking > sign up with local organisations that host events. Attending these events opens up opportunities to create connections with other industry professionals.
Speakers pack > create a pack that includes your bio, headshot, testimonials and topics of discussion that you can present.
Create content > whatever suits you best, eg email marketing, blog posts, social media, podcasting etc.
HELPFUL TIP: Build your credibility as part of your personal brand, to up your know/like/trust factor. This could include industry and association memberships, displaying quals on your LinkedIn profile, social proofing (reviews/testimonials) and anything else that gives you a third party stamp of approval.
