Welcome to our first Sound Bite - a shorty episode that covers off on one little thought, idea or FAQ that’s been on our minds.
Your brand is how people view your business - it’s the personality, the tone, the values that make you different from the next guy.
Hmmm brand values, what a great topic - let’s look at that one some more!
So how do we identify what our brand values are?
Start with a brainstorm > Go solo or gather your team (if you have one) and get yourself all warmed up and creative-feeling. If it’s just you, pop on some music but if you’re with your crew - you can start with a group icebreaker exercise to get you all in the right frame of mind. This helps to get the ideas flowing
Adjectives are describing words > Isn’t this what we were taught in school? It’s time to write a massive list of the adjectives you would want people to use when describing your brand. You may write these down on sticky notes and pin them to the walls (that’s what we did) - keeping it visual helps with the ideas. Chucking it all up on a whiteboard is a great idea too
Time to cull > Your adjective list may have gotten pretty big - now it’s time to bring it down to five. What you’re looking for are the words that really resonate with you - words that you want to align your brand with. Sometimes two words can have similar meanings - the Cull is the time to work out which one represents you best. Bring it down to just five - and they are your work-in-progress values. That’s right - work in progress. They can change and evolve over time, but this is your starting point - well done for getting here!
