5 tips for getting social pics:
Good lighting
You don’t necessarily need LOTS of light – even light across your subject is the best. North or south-facing windows are ideal light sources for this.
True colours
In product photography especially, ensure the colours in the photo are identical to real-life colours, as filters, presets, and some lighting change the colours of your subject. For products, getting the colours right ensures the customer knows what they’re buying.
Authenticity
Show customers who they will work with and be your true self. Show the face behind the business for your customers to bond with you.
Consistency
Keep a consistent look to your images. Don’t use different filters for all your images – keep to the one filter that aligns with all your images.
Attention-grabbing
Keep your images exciting and your customer’s attention focused on you. Change the angles the pictures are taken from – the viewer shouldn’t be able to guess your height from your profile!
Helpful tip: Navigating copyright and ownership
Basically, in Australia, the photographer or person taking the photo owns the copyright to any image they take. Clients who hire a photographer need to ensure they know what license or usage rights they have to the final images. If you are in business, you want to make sure you have a commercial license to the images, in writing, with the rights to use the images how/wherever you like for your business, for as long as you need them. Don't assume this is just included in the creative fee for the session.
