He was only one month into the job, but Lani and I were both super impressed by the new CEO of Mackay Isaac Tourism (MIT) – Al Grundy. He’s lovely and friendly and all that, but man – as soon as we started talking tourism, the passion and knowledge and experience that he brings to the table – it was an awesome interview.
When I contacted Al to do the podcast, I’d never actually met him – and I didn’t even talk to him when we booked it in. His lovely team got us all scheduled in, promising that – although he would have no idea who we were – he would definitely be there. So when he turned up, I was a little nervous as to how it all would go. My intention for this ep was to do a deep dive on how marketing is going in the tourism industry – with the hopes of teasing out some interesting tips and tricks to help our tourism businesses. What I got was so much more. For anyone who lives in Mackay or Isaac – I highly recommend you give this one a watch, whether you own a business or not. Al’s take on the world of tourism, and our place in it, aligns a lot with my own – which is probs why I liked him so much. That aside, the guy seems to truly know his stuff – and he cares, he cares a whole damn lot – which is something I always respect in a person.
