Want to start a business this weekend?

After the success of Mackay’s first ‘Startup Weekend’ in 2015, this year's event looks to be even bigger and better!

With $20k in grants and sponsorship already booked, Startup Weekend Mackay kicks off today at the new Split Spaces Coworking & Innovation Hub at CQ Uni City Campus at 5pm.

"We have an exciting Facilitator provided to us by the parent company of Startup Weekend, who has flown over from the USA to help us out. Participants will not only get to learn from experts, they will also have networking opportunities with investors and likeminded startup entrepreneurs over the weekend." Dennis Murphy, President of Startup Mackay Inc.

Mackay’s budding entrepreneurs, ideas people and fledgling business startups will have an opportunity to experience a weekend like no other. In an atmosphere buzzing with energy, encouragement and enthusiastic support, participants will experience 54 hours of fun whilst discovering the highs, lows and pressure needed to develop a startup business idea.

Attendees of all ages from a cross section of the community - students, housewives, geeks, designers, retirees, business owners, IT nerds etc can network with mentors, investors and co-founders to learn and develop business ideas.

Although it may sound pretty formal, it's an energetic and collaborative atmosphere that everyone enjoys. The weekend ends with teams pitching to a panel of ‘Shark Tank’ like judges and the winners take home some excellent prizes! Donated prizes for the weekend include three months of free co-working space from Split Spaces, a Business Accelerator package from BlueChill, and Global Business Mentoring and Coaching from Business in Bare Feet and Real Inspired Dreams.

This year's special guests include venture capital firm Big Wave Ventures, Cullens Patent and Trademark Attorneys and FireStation 101.
