Cape Hillsborough kangaroos set for stardom
The kangaroos on Cape Hillsborough beach will be viewed over 90 million times by domestic and international travellers, as part of Qantas’ new inflight safety video.
The video features some of Australia’s most stunning landscapes and locations, depicting everyday Australians in unique destinations across every state and territory.
Cape Hillsborough is shown at 4 mins 40 seconds and features Sharon from Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park. She is seen in the video telling people to switch electronic devices to flight mode before take-off. The background is the kangaroos and wallabies on the beach with sunrise.
Qantas worked with Tourism Australia and state tourism organisations to make the film across a 12-day period. Qantas will not only be using content from the video as providing engaging and informative safety information, but also to promote destinations for Australia’s key tourism markets.
Ben and Renae Atherton have operated the Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Resort for four-and-a-half years and say they are ecstatic that the beauty and wildlife of Cape Hillsborough has been captured appropriately in the safety video.
“Mackay needs something to put it on the map and I think this is as big publicity as we’re going to see for a fair while,” Ben said.
“The Park has been doing really well and Council and National Parks have been right behind us.”
General Manager of Mackay Tourism, Tas Webber, said it was fantastic to be one of only 16 locations in Australia to be featured in the video.
“With only two other Queensland locations featured on the video, I think Cape Hillsborough will stand out as being truly unique and offering a once-in-a-lifetime nature experience.”
“We’re hoping this will drive more visitation to Mackay and surrounds.”
