DIRECTORS' CIRCLE: Alison Richardson, Crossroad Arts

I remember going to performances by Crossroad Arts as a kid, and it wasn’t until I had a meeting with Alison (their Artistic Director) that I found out that, firstly, CA is an all abilities arts organisation – and secondly, that we are extremely lucky as this type of organisation is highly unique in Australia. And I just thought they did awesome shows!

Working with and sponsoring organisations like CA are some of the best parts of marketing – working with people who are so passionate, giving back and supporting them however we can and making their marketing life just that bit easier. That’s the stuff we really enjoy, and so we thought it was time to dig a little deeper and get to know more about the amazing “head” of CA, Alison Richardson.

Explain yourself in one word.

Once when gardening, my brother and I conspired to scare Dad by pretending to chop my hands off with garden shears. Needless to say, to the hilarity of our prank was lost on Dad.

Give a shout out to three local businesses

  1. Neighbourhood Yoga: Julieanne, who runs Neighbourhood Yoga, was a welcoming and kind face when I first arrived in Mackay. I attended her retreats, winter warmer weekends and Sunday afternoons yoga in the Botanic Gardens.

  2. 9th Lane Grind Café: Kristy was very kind in having one of our performers, Georgia Knoll, to be an artist in residence for three days in the cafe where she served customers and also interviewed them on the themes of our major production. They also do a great chai and sugar free treats, and the outside area is dog friendly!

  3. Pop Press: Brendan from is always efficient and friendly whenever we need to get our show fliers and programs printed. He sometimes has also been generous to do some of our print jobs in-kind.
