Directors' Circle: Chris Dingle, Deluxe Wheelie Wash

It may seem a little odd, but there is something particularly awesome about your bins getting a proper clean – and looking almost good as new. Maybe that’s just me, but when I met Chris Dingle from Deluxe Wheelie Wash I discovered not only does he provide a killer bin cleaning service, he’s also a really interesting guy.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Gee that’s stretching the memory a bit… but I always wanted to do something on the water, like a captain of a reef tourist boat or a diver, as I really liked the ocean. I do get to still enjoy the saltwater with boating and recreational fishing though, so that fills the need.

What was the biggest surprise for you about starting a new business?

There were a few surprises… but I really was not expecting how good it feels to build something from the ground up and how much pride you get from being in charge of your own destiny. I have managed corporate businesses and had business development roles in the past where success was rewarding but not like this.

What’s your favourite part about being a business owner?

The freedom to choose how I wish to build my business and how I wish to spend my time. But most of all, being able to spend time with family now.

What’s been the steepest learning curve since starting a business?

Probably the boo keeping side of things, so Xero has been a godsend that’s for sure.

What happens in a typical day for you?

  • I always do some marketing every day, by either approaching businesses or mail drops in residential areas.

  • Bin cleaning is my business so I always get to freshen up some bins around the place.

  • Usually spend some time in the office; marketing, quoting, entering new customers, reconciling etc etc

How do you generate new ideas for the business?

I usually have plenty of time to think whilst driving around and cleaning bins, so this is when all the awesome plans and ideas are hatched.
